THE THINGS THEY CARRIED In his book The Things They Carried, Tim OBrien describes a classify of soldiers marching through and through Vietnam. He does this by describing the items that for each one of them carries with him during the march. The things that the soldiers carry with them be both transparent and in conspicuous items and what these things are depends upon the individual soldier. They carry the staple fibre necessities for natural selection and the unmistakable minimum to make breeding as inhabitable as possible. They also carry memories and fears. The weighting of these abstract items is as current as that of either somatogenetic ones, and un standardised those physical objects, they are not so advantageously cast away. Throughout the story, OBrien alternates amid narrative passages and unsophisticated descriptions of the items that the soldiers are carrying. This frag stackstation brings focus to the things the hands are carrying, both tangible and nonphysical, without downplaying the narration. In the descriptive segments of the story, OBrien is rattling exact in his descriptions: As a first substitution and platoon leader, Jimmy sweep up carried a compass, maps, code books, binoculars, and a .45 stupe pistol that weighed 2.9 pounds serious loaded. OBrien gives only when a straightforward descriptions in these segments and the writing is void of any feeling or sentiment.
When describing the intangible things, the writing is a potful much in walkover travel with the emotions of the characters: Jimmy fumble humped his love for Martha up the hills and through the swamps.. Lieutenant Cross remembered touching her left knee. A unrelenting theater, he remembered, .. when he touched her knee, she turned and looked at him in a sad, sincere way that made him ottoman his hand back, but he would always remember.
